第33話 「Love to revive」 もうどのくらいの時が経っただろう。 俺がジークに変身することを選んで、時の流れから外れて「存在」が消えてから。 あの時の俺は、ああすることでしか、母さんと慧姉を助けられなかった。 あの時ほど自分の無力さを呪ったことはなかった。 いくら励ましても、話しかけても、目の前で父さんが死んだのは自分たちのせいだって言って聞かなかった母さんと慧姉。自分たちのせいだってずっと責め続けて・・・。 まさかそんな時にイマジンに襲われるわ、突然ジークライナーのパスを拾ったことで、俺が仮面ライダージークに選ばれたとかで、襲撃食らうわ、それで、それでも諦めないで戦うことを選んで、フェザーがまさかイマジンたちを裏切って俺の味方になってくれて、それで変身することになって・・・。 そしたら・・・その後おかしなことが起きたんだよな。 家に帰っても、そこには何事もなかったかのように笑っている母さんと慧姉がいて、元気取り戻したのかなって思ってた。 でも・・・・そしたら、母さんはぽかんと俺のこと見てるし、慧姉は家に入ってきた俺を見て・・・言った。その時の言葉は思い出したくないけど覚えている。 慧「・・・・あんた、誰？」 「存在」を代償として得ることが出来る力。 それが仮面ライダージークになりうる適合者に与えられる能力だ。 いかなる時間にも干渉できる、だがそれは、どの世界に干渉しても影響を与えない、すなわち幽霊のような存在になるってことだった。例え干渉しても、変身するたびに存在が消えて、世界から俺の存在は消えていく。それで、天童家には、あったはずの俺の部屋は物置になってたし、そもそも、この家には母さんと慧姉しか住んでないということになってたし、俺がこの世界で生きていたと証明できるものは何一つなくなっていたんだ。それで、もう一つは、俺が干渉しているものを俺が願うことで、その存在を俺と同じように消し去ってしまうことが出来るってことだった。1回限り、つまり人一人の存在をこの世から全ての人間から「忘れさせる」「存在していたことに関する全ての記憶を消す」、それ以外の人間に関しては影響はない、つまり、大事な人がいなくなっても、その周りの人たちの環境は変わらないってことだ。そう、フェザーから話を聞いて、最初は驚いたというか・・・何て言うかワケ分からなくって・・・でも、俺がすべきことは思いついた。 今思えば、ああするしかなかったって思うんだが、あれで「救われてよかった」なんて言う気にはなれない。 俺が・・・・その力で・・・・母さんと慧姉、この世界から「父さん」に関する記憶を全て消し去った。もう父さんはいない、その事実を受け入れられずに苦しみ続け、過去から動けずにいる二人を・・・助けたかったから。 それで・・・俺がいなくなることで、あの二人が救われる、悲しいこと、辛かったことなんて忘れて前へ前へ進んで生きていけるなら、俺はそれで満足だって思ってた。 それしか・・・助けられる方法がなかった。他にどうすることも出来なかった。でも、今はあの時のように歪んだ「正義」に囚われたり、実力の伴わない理想に押しつぶされて足掻いて、自分の命を投げうつような真似は、もう二度と繰り返さない―・・・！！ ジーク「はあああああああああっ！」 ジークが黄金色の風を纏いて、大剣を振り回し敵を吹き飛ばし、剣圧で切り刻んでいく。 右に左に繰り出される鋭い刃の超重量級の打撃はモールプレデターを圧倒的に凌駕し、ジークの驀進はとどまることがない。 ジーク「どけどけどけーーーーっ！！！」 大剣にエネルギーを充填させて地面に振り下ろすと、無数の風の刃が地を切り刻みながら走り、向かってくる敵を一掃する！！ あらかた叩きのめすと、ジークが奥へと進み、通路を抜け、また大きな空洞にたどり着く。 ジーク「地下水路がある所か・・！水の流れの音・・・・ここじゃ聞こえないか。もう少し奥だな」 防空壕の中を慎重に進む。暗くじめっとした地下壕の中はお化け屋敷だってここまでは怖くはないという異様かつ恐怖をそそる不気味な空間だ。 ジーク（暁だったらもう完全にギブアップだったかもな。あいつ、お化け苦手だし） まあ自分だって、ここで戦争中何人もの人間が死んで、供養もされないまま埋葬されていると考えるだけでゾッとはするのだが。というか、ここはまともに人が踏みこんでいい場所なんかではない。近づいてはならない禁断の領域だ。闇がうごめいているようにも思える、冷汗が止まらない、どこまでも続く闇が飲みこもうとしているとさえ思える。 ジーク「・・ただでさえ精神的にまいってるのにこんなところにいたら狂っちまうぞ・・！」 そして通路の奥につくと、水の流れの音がきこえる。 このあたりか？通ろうとする前に、岩壁にある看板を見る。近くには「弾薬庫・兵器開発営舎」などと書いてある。そして、あった。 「緊急避難用水路」。 ジーク「この先か」 空洞に入る。やけに静かだ。 しかし、その空洞に入ったとき、ジークの目が驚きで見開き凍りついた。 まるで極寒の冷蔵庫に、防寒着もろくに着ないで入ったような、異様な寒気。そう感じるまでに震えあがるほどの凄惨な光景・・・。 血・血・血・・・・。 岩壁、地面を生臭い赤い血が塗りたくられたように全て染め上げ、血の海が広がっている。 そして、そこには無残に切り刻まれたモールプレデターの残骸が転がっていた・・・。 ジーク「・・・・・・・うっ・・・・・！！」 あまりにも酷過ぎる光景、思わずジークも悲鳴を上げそうになり、吐きだしそうな嗚咽を必死で押さえる。 そしてその真ん中にいた。 二本の青龍刀を持って、両膝をついて座りこんで、顔を俯いているマリアの姿が・・・。 その表情は・・・無表情だった。 目には光もなく、返り血に染まる姿をどうとも思わず、ただ虚ろな瞳でどこを見ているわけでもなく、魂が抜けてしまっているようにも見える。 まさかこれだけ大量の敵を一人で倒したというのか。 50体近くはいたモールプレデターたちが無残な屍へと変えた、想像を絶する強さにジークも戦かずにはいられない。 ジーク「・・・・マリア、さん」 マリア「・・・・・さ・・・とる・・・くん？」 ふと顔を上げる。虚ろな瞳で、ジークを見て呟く。 この時のマリアには、ジークが暁に見えているのか、さっきまでの警戒していた様子とは嘘のように心から打ち解けているような安心感を感じているように思える。目から涙が零れおちた。虚ろな青い瞳でジークに寄り、笑いながら話しかける。その笑みが乾ききっていて・・・もう壊れる寸前だった。 マリア「・・・どこまでも・・・まっくらなんだあ・・・・まっくらなくらやみが・・・ずっと・・ずっと・・・ひろがっていて・・・ひかりが・・・・どこをさがしても・・・・ないよぉ・・・・」 星「・・・・・マリアさん」 マリア「・・・でもね・・・きづいたの・・・・そんなの・・・とうぜんだって・・・。だって・・・わたし・・・・もう・・・ずっとむかしに・・・・死んじゃってたんだから・・・それで・・・・じごくに・・・・おちてたんだから・・・・・くるしくて・・・とうぜんなのに・・・どうして・・・くるしいって・・・・おもってたんだろう・・・・うふふ・・おかしいよねぇ・・？もともと・・・じごくのなかに・・・いたのに・・・・」 星はもう言葉が出ない。もう、壊れてしまっているのかもしれない。ここまで何が彼女を追いつめたというのか。 マリア「・・・ゆめを・・・みていた・・ようです」 星「・・・夢？」 マリア「・・・・うん。わたしはね、エリザベート様っていう、とっても優しくて強い吸血鬼のお姫様と出会ったの。それでね、アリスっていうちょっとエッチでおバカな子、フレアっていう乱暴な女の子、セレスさんっていう優しくて優雅な女性と一緒に四天王を名乗って、それぞれの理想をかなえるために戦っていた・・・」 星「・・・しっかりしろよ、それは夢なんかじゃない」 マリア「・・・アルトも、お母さんも助けられなかった。実験生物のように人間の扱いもされずに死んでしまった弟も・・・・その研究に携わっていた母さんが研究の危険性を危惧してその研究を止めるためのシステムを開発していたことが露見して・・・母さんが新しい実験対象にされると聞いて・・・助けにいったのに・・・・私・・・・死んじゃった」 星「死・・・」 マリア「自分が死んだ時のこと、今でも覚えてる。弟も助けられなかった、目の前で連れ去られる母さんを守ることも出来なかった。血がいっぱい出て・・・剣で切られて・・・すごく痛かったのに・・・・どんどん痛くなくなってきて・・・・冷たくなって・・・それからどんどん真っ暗になって・・・うん・・・あれが「死ぬ」ってことなんだあって」 星はもう言葉がない。 彼女は・・・自分が死んだ時のことを覚えてしまっていたのだ。 記憶力の良さが完全に災いしていた。というか、そんな凄惨な経験をして、蘇ってなお忘れることなどまず無理・・・いや、アリスやフレアのような能天気極まりないタイプもいるけど。エリザベートはそんな彼女のことを救いたかったのかもしれない。でも、それは自分が死んだことを知っていて、生きている人間とは違うイレギュラーと化してしまった残酷な世界を突きつけてしまうことになると、気が付かなかったのか。 思わず怒りが込み上がってくる。自分は彼女を助けたかった、助けられた、それで満足していると思うと、はたしてそれが本当に正しい正義かと叫びたくなる。そんなの間違っている。 マリア「なのにね、死んでいるのに、もう生きてすらないのに、今だに、ひかりに、すがりついている、なさけない自分がいるの。エリザベート様や四天王の仲間たちもそう。でも、もっと優しくて暖かい光を見ちゃった。死んだ人間が絶対に見てはいけない、温かくて優しい気持ちに満ち溢れている光を・・・でもそれはいつまでも死者が望んではいけないものなの」 星「でも・・！」 マリア「・・・暁くん、私ね、死んだ時のままなんだよ？ずっと、ずっと、16歳のままなの。もう、暁くんと一緒に成長も出来ない、君だけが死んでいく、いつかお別れしなくちゃいけないの。そこで気づいたの。本当の私は、もう骨すら残ってない。あの冷たい研究所で死んだの。何を望んでいたんだろう、何が暖かったんだろう、結局は君まで騙していた。全部嘘なんだあ、本当は今もまだ地獄の中にいる・・・」 星「・・・・地獄・・・・！」 言葉が出ない。 また、誰も救えない。 死に囚われて、自分が生きてきたことも、全てが夢だと、それを希望と信じて生きてきた自分を嘲り笑う乾いた笑み・・・。 ふと、マリアの胸にうごめいている何かが見えた。 それは・・・！ 「女帝」を意味するタロットカード・・・！ それがマリアの心臓に巣くうように、怪しい紫色の光を放ち、マリアを飲み込まんとしている。それに呼び寄せられるように闇が集まりだし、やがてそれが無数のシャークプレデターと化していく・・・！ 星「このカードは・・・神代聖の！！そうか、あの女、女教皇以外にももう一枚マリアさんにやりやがったのかっ！！それで精神的に追い詰めて、彼女が自滅するように・・・！くそっ、あのイカレシスタァアア――――――っ！！！！」 死してなお、人を絶望にいざない、落とすことを心より楽しんでいる悪魔のシスター。 そのシスターの目論見どおり、今、無数の彼女の闇から生まれたシャークプレデターが今にも二人に食いつかんと迫ってきている。 星「・・・・くそっ、やるしかねえかっ！」 「ふふ、お見苦しい姿ですねえ・・・・」 ふと、洞窟の奥から声が聞こえてきた。 そして、闇が湧き上がり、やがてそれが最も憎むべき敵の姿となった。それは生きてはいない、残骸のような存在。しかしその邪悪に満ちた笑みは、歪んだ美貌は、放たれる強大な邪悪な気は、星の怒りを一気に沸騰させる。 星「・・・・神代・・・聖――――――――っ！！！！！」 聖「ふふふふ・・・・、実力を伴わない理想に溺れ、今なお正義の味方気取りで時間をさまよう、存在なき亡霊さんと、死んだときの記憶に囚われ、大切な存在を守れなかった絶望に満ちてしまったゆえに、それから逃れるために知識を追い求めて逃げ場所を探していた死者、現世にもうこれ以上囚われないように、ここで、浄化して差し上げますわ」 ナイアルラトホテップによって生み出された魔力の残りが生み出した偽者。 しかし、邪悪に満ちた笑みは、さげすんだ笑み、そして放たれる魔力の風が星を吹き飛ばす！吹き飛ばされ、カードをベルトに通し、構える。 星「・・・暁なら、こういうだろうな。マリアさんをここまで苦しめやがったこと、追い詰めたこと、絶対に許せないってな。そして、俺も、もう許せない！！！テメェ！！！覚悟決めやがれぁあああああああああああああああああああああっ！！！」 咆哮とともに、大剣を振り上げながら突撃して切りかかっていく！ 光を帯びて走りながらその姿がジークへと変わっていく！そして、サーベルタイガーファンガイアへと変わった聖に切りかかり、巨大な爪で塞がれ、それでもなお攻撃を繰り返す！ サーベルタイガーファンガイア「ふっ！」 ジーク「お前・・・死んでなお人の心を弄びやがって――――っ！！」 サーベルタイガーファンガイア「それだけが生きがいなので。弱者がもがき苦しみ、狂い壊れていく光景、なんて素敵なんでしょう。自我が強ければ強いほど、壊し甲斐がある！私は恵まれていますよ。こうして、悪あがきばかりに長けている敵が多いと！壊しても壊しても、満足できない！！」 ジーク「テメェエエエエエエエエエエエエっ！！！！！」 完全にキレた。もう理性なんか知るか。こいつはもはや存在さえ残してはいけない。 星が切りかかるが、そこへ、シャークプレデターが切りかかってきて、右に左に剣を構えて襲い掛かってきた。無防備なジークの背中に切りかかり、吹き飛ばす！ ジーク「多すぎるだろ！？」 しかしその時だ！！ フェザー「星――――――――っ！！！」 フェザーの声が響き、無数の羽手裏剣が放たれシャークプレデターの大群をぶっ飛ばす！ 後ろを見ると、マリアを抱えたフェザーが後ろにいた！ ジーク「フェザー！！さすがは俺のLover！！愛してるぜ――――っ！！」 フェザー「・・・今はそんなこと言ってる場合ですか！！・・・まあ、今日は眠らせませんから、ごほん」 顔を真っ赤にして洞窟の奥へと走り去る。 ジーク「・・・亡霊とか何とか言ってくれたよな？例え存在が消えてしまっても、気づかれることがなくても、忘れられても、守りたい者を守るために俺は戦いたい。家族やその子供、そいつらの親友、わずかだとしても、俺はそいつらを守るためなら命かけてやらあ！！」 もう、あの時のように自分さえ犠牲になれば助けられるという救いは捨てた。 世界全てを救おうという実力に伴わない正義ではなく、自分の手が届く範囲のものは全て守る。何者にも傷つけられないように！！ サーベルタイガーファンガイア「・・・雑種ごときが！」 洞窟の奥。 マリアを寝かせて、フェザーが話しかける。 フェザー「マリアさん・・・貴方さっき、自分には何も残ってないって言ってたわよね？でも、それは、これを聞いても、そういえる！？」 そういって、カメレオンのメダルアニマルを数枚、取り出して映像を出す。 マリアが顔を上げ、わずかに瞳に光が宿る。 暁「・・・・あのサメのプレデターがマリアさん・・・四天王の一人なんだろ？」 暁「・・・今・・・危ないんだろ・・・・？」 暁「プレデターだろうと何だろうと、関係ないよ！！！マリアさんが危ないんだろっ！！？だったら、俺は何があったって助けるに決まってるだろ！！！！」 暁「マリアさんは・・・俺の大事なダチなんだよっ！！！尊敬している人なんだよっ・・・！！俺にいろいろと大切なものを教えてくれた、姉さんみたいな人なんだよ・・・！！あの人のこと、俺は嫌いになんてなるはずないし、ならない！！！」 マリアの目が驚きで見開かれる。 自分の正体を知っても、それでも、友達と言ってくれるのは・・・・。 暁「プレデターだろうと・・・俺は・・・・あの人のことが大好きだっっ！！！」 暁「マリアさん、あんたがプレデターだろうとなんだろうと、あんたは俺にとって大切なダチであって・・・あこがれの人であることには変わりはないんだ。何があったって、助けてみせる。あんたを失うなんて、絶対に嫌だから。もう一度、会って、取り戻すんだ。あの人の笑顔を・・・」 アリス「マリア、お前に何かあったら、あたしたちだって・・・！」 フレア「頭いいくせに自分のことになると頭回らねぇんだからなっ！！！困ったとき、苦しいときくらい相談しろよ！！仲間だろうがあっ！！！お前が勝手にいなくなっちまったら、アタシ、絶対嫌だし、許せねえよ！！」 セレス「・・・マリア、四天王は、もう代役なんていないのよ。家族に代わりがいると思っていて？」 マリアを探して、必死になって街中を走りまくっているアリス、汗だくになって泣きじゃくりながら探し回るフレア、そんなフレアをなだめながら心配そうな顔で町を走り出すセレス・・・。 ずっと・・・こうして毎晩毎晩探し回っていたのだ。睡眠時間さえほとんどない。朝も昼も夜も、時間さえあればそのたびに探し回っていた。 その映像を星たちもカメレオンで録画していて、マリアが見つかったら匿名で情報を提供するようにしていたのだ。 マリア「・・・・皆？」 フェザー「皆さん、マリアさんのことが好きなんですよ。そばにいてほしくて、いなくなったらすごく寂しいの。今でもそう、例えプレデターと知っても、暁様は貴方のこと、すごく大切に思っているの！それがその証拠！」 そういって、フェザーが差し出したのはラッピングされた箱だった。 リボンを解き、中を開けると・・・。 マリア「・・・・・・・・・あ！！」 ドームに入っている青いクリスタル製の人魚姫の像が両手を合わせて、祈りをささげているような神秘的な像がある、オルゴールだった。 それを震える手でねじを回すと、神秘的な旋律が流れる。 すると・・・マリアの瞳に光が戻り・・・・涙が一滴ほほを伝う。 マリア「・・・・・・これ・・・・」 フェザー「暁様が貴方の誕生プレゼントにこっそり買ってあったんです」 マリア「暁くんが・・・！？」 ～数ヶ月前～ オルゴール博物館。 マリアを元気付けるために・・なんと暁がデートに誘っていたのだ。あの恥ずかしがり屋の暁が一世一代の勇気を込めて誘ったのだった。 マリア「・・・このオルゴール・・・」 そのとき見つけて、心を奪われたのがこの美しい手作りのオルゴールだったのだ。見ると値段は・・・30000円だった。 暁「何かいいの、あったの？」 マリア「あ、ええっと、その、いえ、はい」 そういって、笑いながらその場を去り、そのオルゴールを暁が見たのだ。 暁は少し考えると、凛に連絡をとった。 暁「あ、俺。あのさ、お前の知り合いで、短期で稼げるバイト知らないか？ちょっと金必要になった。・・・・・ビルの清掃か、OK、手続き頼めるか？」 マリア「・・・・・・これを・・・・暁くんが・・・・」 フェザー「暁様、本当にマリアさんのこと、大好きなんですね」 そして、中には手紙が入っていた。 開くとそこには、メッセージが書かれていた。 それを見て、マリアの瞳からあふれんばかりに涙が零れ落ちる。 「誕生日おめでとう！これからもよろしくなっ！！心友へ 暁」 フェザー「暁様、いつも自分が戦士として常に強くたくましくあろうと、毎日努力して頑張っているんです。でも、貴方のように一度自分で決めたらとことん最後まで全力で取り組まれる貴方の努力を見て、最初から最後まで全力で物事に打ち込めることに、尊敬して、その努力が実ることを楽しみにされているんです。だから、心の友と書いて、心友って・・・」 マリア「・・・う・・・ううう・・・・・・うわあああああああああああん・・・・！！」 オルゴールを抱きしめ、マリアが泣き出した。激しい感情に任せるように、のどが裂けんばかりに泣きじゃくる。 フェザー「マリアさん。本当にもう何も残っていないの？そんなことはない。だって、目を開いて前を見てください。こんなに手を差し伸べてくれる人たちがいるじゃない」 マリア「・・・うん・・うん！！いる！！いた！！大事な、仲間が、いた！！暁くんが、いてくれた！！私の大好きな男の子、大好きな心友（しんゆう）がいたよ！！！！会って、ちゃんと謝りたい！！！もう一度、会いたい！！！もう、一人は嫌だよ・・・！！」 手紙からイメージが読み取れた。 （イメージ） 凛「お前がまさかそこまで頑張るとはな。ママは嬉しいぜ」 暁「誰がママか。まあ、俺もあの人のことになると、どうもテンション上がっちまう」 凛「・・・ふふふっ、気分はどう？」 暁「・・・悪くはないかな。あの人の笑顔、見てみたい。すごく優しい笑顔するんだ、みているこっちまで幸せになれるような。だから、いつまでも曇ったままじゃなくって、笑っていてほしいな」 あの子が手を差し伸べてくれている。 一度死んだ私だけど、もし許されるなら、もう一度・・・。 君という光に、抱かれたい。 そのときだった。 オルゴールから青い光がほとばしり、やがてそれが一枚のパスとなって現れた！ そして、それがマリアの手の中に納まった。 マリア「こ・・・これは・・・！？」 フェザー「伝説のパスの一つっ！？」 「そう、アタシは伝説の七人のライダーの一人、＜水＞の力をつかさどり、＜友情＞の紋章を持つ精霊・・・・マリン。マリンライナーを守護する番人・・・・」 そういって、美しい真珠のような肌を持ち、サメのような兜をかぶっている緑色のウェーブがかかった美しい上半身と、青く光る魚の下半身を持つ精霊・マリンが現れた。 マリア「・・・・伝説のパス・・・！」 マリン「マリア・シャークエッジ。貴方は本当の友情を知った。相手を気遣うあまりに時として傷つき、自己嫌悪し、迷いながらも、それでも信じ貫き、得る大切なもの、それこそが本当の友情よ。貴方はずっと心を閉ざし、瞳をつぶり続けてきたから気がつかなかったけど、目を開けば一歩踏み出せば、そこに、本当に望むべきものはあったのよ。ようやく手に入れたわね」 マリア「・・・はい、心の友と書いて心友（しんゆう）。そう教えてくれた大切な友達がいました。私はもう迷わない。自分がどうしたいのか、わかったから、それに向かって歩けます・・！」 マリン「OK！合格ね。貴方ならアタシの力を使いこなせるわ。さあ、今、自分が何をするべきか分かったのなら、動く時よ！！」 マリア「・・・はい！」 涙をぬぐい、マリンが手渡したパスを握り締める。 そして・・・死に、過去に、闇に囚われ続けていた少女が動き出した。 「光」ある場所に帰るために。 その瞳には・・・もう迷いも涙もなかった。 フェザー「マリアさん・・・！」 マリア「フェザーさん、このお礼は洞窟を出てから、必ず言います。今は・・・星さんを！」 フェザー「はい！」 フェザーも立ち上がり、二人で元きた道を引き返す！ そして先ほどの空洞に差し掛かったとき。 ジーク「うわああああああああああああああ！！」 ボロボロの姿となったジークが壁に叩きつけられ、ついに倒れこむ。 そして、爪を構えて悠然と近寄るサーベルタイガーファンガイアが寄ってくる。 サーベルタイガーファンガイア「もうおしまいですねえ・・・亡霊は亡霊らしく消えなさい！」 ジーク「そりゃテメェの方だぜ・・・クサレシスターがよっ！！」 大剣を構えて立ち上がるが、もう体は限界を迎えている。震えて立っているのもやっとだ。 その時だ。 フェザー「はああああああっ！！」 フェザーが発射した羽手裏剣がサーベルタイガーファンガイアを打ち据える。 サーベルタイガーファンガイア「む・・・？」 振り返ると、そこには羽手裏剣を構えているフェザーと、マリアが立っていた。 マリアの表情にはもう闇も翳りもない。青い瞳に闘志の炎を宿らせて、まっすぐ目の前の敵を見据えている。自分の心に巣くい、ずっと苦しめ続けてきた怨敵を。 サーベルタイガーファンガイア「ほう・・・わざわざ介錯でも頼みに来ましたか？」 マリア「・・・・・冗談はそこまでです。私は確かに一度死んでいる。でも、それでも、もう一度手を差し伸べてくれているなら、気持ちだけでもリセットできるはず。私はもう一度、生きて生きたい。心友がいる、あの暖かい光のある場所を・・・守る！」
